B2B SEO:
A step-by-step guide

Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged.

What to do if you are a BT Redcare customer

March 27, 2024

In a significant development in security services, BT has recently announced the discontinuation of its Redcare Alert services. Redcare Alert, a stalwart in the security industry, has been a reliable choice for countless businesses and homeowners seeking a robust alarm monitoring system. The decision to cease providing this service marks the end of an era for BT and leaves its users seeking alternative solutions.

BT's decision to discontinue Redcare Alert services is not without reasons. The landscape of security services has undergone a radical transformation in recent years, with emerging technologies challenging traditional methods. The shift towards internet-based communication and the rise of wireless solutions have rendered landline-dependent systems less relevant. In response to these industry changes, BT has opted to streamline its offerings, redirecting resources toward more modern and versatile security solutions.

For businesses and individuals relying on Redcare Alert, this announcement comes as a significant shake-up. Users must now consider alternative options to ensure the continued protection of their properties. While the discontinuation may prompt some initial concerns and uncertainties, it also presents an opportunity to explore modern security technologies that offer enhanced features and adaptability.

It is reported that over 100,000 private customers and businesses will be affected, and they’ll need to find alternative solutions. If you are an existing Redcare customer, you will probably be receiving calls and communications from a wide range of alarm maintenance companies, alarm suppliers and other companies who may see an unexpected business opportunity. Given the criticality of alarm systems to customers’ insurance covers, we are here to support you and provide advice in finding an alternative.

Many customers will be unaware of the technological specifications delivered through Redcare and it’s important that the replacement service you choose provides a like for like performance level.

There are a very limited number of potential alternative suppliers. Alarm signalling products like the CSL Dualcom Gradeshift Pro DP3 or indeed any dual path Alarm Transmission System with performance level DP3 certificated to BSEN50136-1:2012 are likely to be accepted by insurers as a like-for-like replacement.

However, we’d strongly advise that Redcare customers act quickly as it’s almost inevitable that the closer we get to 1 August 2025, the more likely installation bottlenecks and product shortages will begin to occur.

When selecting an alternative security system, consider the following:

  1. Installed by a company regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) which incorporates the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) or a company regulated by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB).
  2. Will be maintained in full working order under an annual maintenance contract with an appropriate alarm maintenance company or installer regulated by the National Security Inspectorate (NSI) which incorporates the National Approval Council for Security Systems (NACOSS) or a company regulated by the Security Systems and Alarm Inspection Board (SSAIB). We may require evidence of the maintenance agreement in the event of a claim.

To facilitate a smooth transition, BT is expected to offer support and guidance for existing Redcare Alert users during the discontinuation process. Users are encouraged to reach out to BT representatives for assistance in identifying suitable alternative security solutions based on their specific needs and preferences.

The discontinuation of Redcare Alert by BT marks the end of an era in traditional landline-based security monitoring. While this change may initially pose challenges for users accustomed to the reliability of Redcare Alert, it also opens doors to explore more advanced and versatile security options. As technology continues to evolve, the security landscape will undoubtedly witness further innovations, providing users with a broader array of choices to safeguard their homes and businesses.
